The BMW M5 sedan of the G90 series is the first full-fledged M5 generation with plug-in hybrid technology, marking a turning point in the M Performance segment. The 4.4-liter V8 biturbo (S68) produces 585 PS and is combined with a 145-kW electric motor integrated into the gearbox to deliver a system output of 727 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque; the plug-in hybrid battery with a gross capacity of 18.6 kWh enables up to 68 km of purely electric range (WLTP). Despite its increased weight, the M5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. M xDrive with optional 2WD mode, 8-speed M Steptronic with Drivelogic, adaptive M suspension, M Sport brakes, and the BMW Curved Display with M-specific graphics and Launch Control round out the technology package. Visual distinguishing features include the wide gill-style fenders, M-specific carbon elements, and the signature four exhaust tailpipes. The M5 is produced at the BMW plant in Dingolfing.
