The BMW 8 Series Convertible of the G14 model series was manufactured at the BMW plant in Dingolfing from November 2018 to April 2025, offering the open-top variant of the Gran Turismo flagship. The electro-hydraulic three-layer soft top opened in just 15 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and, thanks to additional acoustic insulation layers, ensured a near-limousine-level of quietness when the roof was closed. Technically, the Convertible shared the CLAR platform, drivetrains, and chassis with the Coupé. The engine lineup included the 840d xDrive inline-six diesel with 320 PS and the M850i xDrive V8 biturbo with 530 PS, while the M8 Convertible variant added the 625 PS S63 V8 from the M8 Competition. Exclusive features included Air Collar neck heating, a heated steering wheel, individually woven roof paintwork with a pearl effect, and the BMW Individual Composition program. With the end of production of the entire 8 Series lineup in 2025, the Convertible was also discontinued; BMW has no plans for a direct successor.
