The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé of the G16 model series was manufactured at the BMW plant in Dingolfing from July 2019 to September 2025 and was the four-door interpretation of the 8 Series Gran Tourismo. With a wheelbase extended to 3.02 meters, four full-sized seats, and the characteristically elongated roofline, the Gran Coupé appealed to customers who wanted to combine the sporting presence of a coupé with the everyday practicality of a luxury saloon. Technically, like the Coupé and Cabriolet, it was based on the CLAR platform with rear-axle air suspension, adaptive M suspension, and integral active steering. The engine portfolio included the 840d xDrive inline six-cylinder diesel and the M850i xDrive V8 biturbo; the M8 Competition Gran Coupé variant, in its top specification with 625 PS, was the most powerful production BMW with four doors. Exclusive equipment features included the BMW Individual Composition package, optional lounge packages for the rear compartment, and BMW Laser Light. Production of the model series ended in September 2025, with the final special model M850i Edition M Heritage built exclusively as a Gran Coupé.
