The new BMW i3 is not to be confused with the compact car built from 2013–2022 — it is the fully electric mid-size sedan in 3 Series format and the second model of the new "Neue Klasse" generation after the iX3. World premiere took place in March 2026; series production starts in August 2026 at the plant in Munich, with first deliveries in autumn 2026. Built on a newly developed 800-volt architecture with the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology, the top model i3 50 xDrive delivers around 469 PS of system output, a battery of approximately 108 kWh, and a range of up to 900 km according to WLTP. The charging capacity of up to 400 kW is designed to add enough energy for around 400 km in just ten minutes. Design language, operating concept, and software have been fundamentally redesigned compared to previous BMW models. As of May 2026, many technical specifications are preliminary — market launch announced for late 2026.
