The VW ID.4 has been produced exclusively at the Emden plant since 2023 and, together with the ID.7, forms the backbone of northern Germany's electric mobility production. As the first mass-market electric SUV from the VW Group, it targets customers looking to transition from combustion engine SUVs (Tiguan class) to electric mobility. Since the major update in 2023/24, all variants are equipped with the new APP-550 rear motor, which delivers significantly more power at greater efficiency. The model portfolio consists of the entry-level Pure variant (170 PS, 52-kWh battery) and the larger Pro variant (286 PS, 77-kWh net battery) with rear-wheel drive, as well as the Pro 4Motion and the GTX all-wheel drive top version with 340 PS and 4.7 seconds to 100 km/h. The maximum range for the Pro rear-wheel drive reaches up to 572 km WLTP, while the GTX achieves up to 482 km. All versions charge at up to 175 kW DC. The interior was modernized in the update, featuring illuminated slider controls and a new infotainment system with IDA voice control.
