The VW Golf has been the benchmark of the compact class in Europe since 1974 and continues to be manufactured at VW's main plant in Wolfsburg. The eighth generation (Type AC) received a comprehensive facelift in 2024 featuring a new interior, an illuminated model logo on the front fascia, a larger 12.9-inch infotainment display, and the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. Technically, the Golf offers one of the broadest drivetrain lineups in its class: 1.5 TSI and 1.5 eTSI mild-hybrid petrol engines with 115 to 150 PS, 2.0 TDI diesel engines with 115 and 150 PS, a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 204 PS and optional all-wheel drive, as well as the thoroughly revised 1.5 TSI eHybrid plug-in hybrids with 204 or 272 PS system output and over 140 km of electric range thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery. At the top of the range sit the GTI with 265 PS and the R with 333 PS and all-wheel drive. All Golf variants benefit from the revised suspension, modern driver assistance systems, and the Travel Assist function for semi-automated driving.
