The VW Touran has been the compact van classic in the Volkswagen passenger car lineup since 2003, offering family-friendly practicality in standard multi-storey car park dimensions, with up to seven seats in three rows, a flexible interior layout, and generous storage capacity. The current second generation (Type 5T) is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform and was introduced in 2015. The Touran is powered by a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with 150 PS and a 2.0 TDI diesel with 150 PS, available with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). Due to the UN safety regulation GSR II Level C coming into force in July 2026, the Touran would no longer have been eligible for type approval without extensive technical revisions — VW therefore ended production in late April 2026 (week 16); the last order deadline was 13 March 2026. There is no direct successor. The Touran was produced at VW's main plant in Wolfsburg.
