The Porsche 718 (series 982) was the entry point into the Porsche sports car world from 2016 to October 2025, and with its switch to turbocharged flat-four engines it succeeded the six-cylinder era of the 981 series and its predecessors. As the 718 Boxster (roadster) and 718 Cayman (coupé), the series was manufactured at the main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, and was partly assembled in Osnabrück (VW Osnabrück) for a period. At the top of the lineup were the naturally aspirated six-cylinder variants — the 718 GTS 4.0 (400 PS), 718 GT4 (420 PS), 718 Spyder (420 PS) — as well as the RS versions 718 GT4 RS and 718 Spyder RS with 500 PS, using the engine from the 911 GT3. In October 2025, production came to an end — the reason being EU cybersecurity regulations under UNECE R155, which the 982, designed in 2016, could no longer comply with. A purely electric successor (series 983) has been announced for 2026/2027.
