World premiere of the VW ID. Tiguan: electric SUV from Emden replaces ID.4 and ID.5

On October 9, 2026, the ID. Tiguan celebrated its world premiere in Wolfsburg. The electric SUV, built on the further developed MEB+ platform, succeeds the ID.4 and ID.5, which together were built more than 950,000 times. Volkswagen offers three drivetrains: a rear-wheel drive with 140 kW (190 PS) and a 58-kWh LFP battery for up to 450 kilometers, a rear-wheel drive with 210 kW (286 PS) and a 77-kWh battery for up to 600 kilometers, and the all-wheel drive 4MOTION with 220 kW (299 PS) and up to 560 kilometers per WLTP.

At a fast charger, the ID. Tiguan accepts up to 105 kW (58 kWh) or 165 kW (77 kWh) respectively; the charging time from 10 to 80 percent takes around 26 or 29 minutes respectively. Bidirectional charging is on board, and the towing capacity is up to 1,800 kilograms with the smaller battery and 2,000 kilograms with the larger one. The 4.62-metre-long five-seater offers up to 534 litres of boot space plus 32 litres in the frunk; the cockpit features a 10-inch driver display, a 15-inch infotainment screen, and a 12-inch front passenger display. Pre-sales in the Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line trim lines start on 13 October from €42,695, with the market launch to follow in early 2027.

The ID. Tiguan is built at the Volkswagen plant in Emden, where the ID.4 and ID.7 are already rolling off the line; the Tiguan with combustion engine and plug-in hybrid drivetrain continues to come from Wolfsburg. For brand chief Thomas Schäfer, the electric SUV is "a new benchmark for our electric SUVs Made in Germany" – both variants of the bestseller are thus produced in Germany.
