Four Million Motorcycles from Berlin: BMW Celebrates Anniversary in Spandau
At the BMW plant in Berlin-Spandau, the four-millionth motorcycle has rolled off the assembly line – an R 1300 GS Adventure. The location has been producing vehicles since 1969 and is the lead plant of BMW Motorrad's global production network.
The anniversary vehicle, a BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, marks four million motorcycles built in Berlin since production began in 1969. The Spandau plant employs more than 2,600 workers who produce over 157,000 motorcycles per year — at peak times, one every 60 seconds, up to 900 per day.
The milestones reflect the growth of this location: the first million units were reached in 2001, the second in 2011, the third in 2019. As the lead plant, Berlin-Spandau manages BMW Motorrad's international production network.
The fact that an R 1300 GS Adventure of all models is the anniversary vehicle fits the location perfectly: the large adventure touring bike from the GS series is one of the most sought-after models produced at the Berlin plant.
