First Audi Q3 rolls off the production line in Ingolstadt
For the first time in the Q3's approximately 15-year model history, Audi is also manufacturing the model in Germany: compound production in collaboration with Audi Hungaria has launched at the Ingolstadt main plant – painting and final assembly of the compact SUV now take place in Bavaria.
On 8 June 2026, the first Q3 rolled off the line at Audi's home plant in Ingolstadt – marking the launch of combined production with Audi Hungaria in Győr. Until now, the compact SUV had been built exclusively abroad, first at Martorell in Spain, then in Hungary. With this additional production location, Audi is responding to strong demand while also making better use of capacity at its home plant. Plant director Siegfried Schmidtner calls the Q3 "an example of the future viability and flexibility of the Ingolstadt location."
The division of labor: The bodies continue to be built in Győr and travel by rail to Bavaria – DB Cargo runs approximately 30 wagons daily in a continuous loop system. Painting and final assembly then take place in Ingolstadt on Line 3. The logistics processes required for this were established in less than a year; the integrated production model is a core component of the future agreement that Audi concluded in March 2025 for its German locations.
The Q3 launch is the first part of a double debut: In autumn 2026, production of the new fully electric entry-level model Audi A2 e-tron will also begin in Ingolstadt. Following the end of Q2 production in April 2026, the main plant will thus operate on two tracks going forward – with the popular compact SUV and a new electric model range.
