Audi launches production of the A2 e-tron in Ingolstadt – 21 months faster than usual
Ingolstadt, September 10, 2026: Three days after its world premiere, the Audi A2 e-tron rolls off the assembly line at the main plant in Ingolstadt. The most efficient Audi in company history was developed in record time – and is set to prove that cars can be manufactured economically in Germany.
On September 10, 2026, series production of the A2 e-tron got underway in Ingolstadt in the presence of Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner, and Head of Production Gerd Walker. According to Audi, the time from development to production readiness was 21 months shorter than for previous vehicle projects; at the plant, more than 1,200 manufacturing components and around 250 robots were reused from other models. "Building cars economically is possible in Germany," said Walker at the launch.
The A2 e-tron is positioned as an entry-level model and "Audi's most efficient model in the company's history": drag coefficient 0.24, consumption from 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, three battery sizes (52, 61, and 84 kWh) with a WLTP range of 423 to 646 kilometers, power output between 125 and 240 kW, DC charging at up to 183 kW. The starting price is €38,200; orders also opened on September 10, with the market launch to follow in December 2026.
For the main plant, the A2 e-tron represents the second part of the dual launch announced in April, following the Q3 ramp-up in June. Alongside Söder and Döllner, Group Works Council Chairman Jörg Schlagbauer and Plant Manager Siegfried Schmidtner also took part in the production launch – which, according to Schlagbauer, "is the result of the tremendous dedication and skill of our colleagues."
