The German Federal State Saxony-Anhalt lies in the centre of Europe and thus at the point of intersection of Trans-European transport axes. In addition to the excellent connection by road and rail, Saxony-Anhalt can be reached through the network of waterways from East and West Europe. The international airports at Leipzig/Halle, Berlin and Hannover also offer excellent transport routes. Because of the DHL Europe Hub, among other reasons, the airport Leipzig/Halle is an important airport for the express and freight traffic between India and Europe.
Saxony-Anhalt is Eastern Germany’s top location for FDI. Since 1991, investors from around the globe have poured almost € 9.5 billion into the state, creating or securing roughly 38,000 jobs. Especially India is a trade partner of growing importance to Saxony-Anhalt. The paths have been paved: Saxony-Anhalt has become an interesting site for Indian companies. Word of successful collaborations has got around: Famous Indian companies such as the Wockhardt Ltd. in the pharmaceutical sector (esparma GmbH), the stainless steel manufacturer Virage (Flanschenwerk Bebitz) and the Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Ltd. (HNG Global GmbH) have invested in Saxony-Anhalt and selected a geographically excellent location to be active in the European markets. Saxony-Anhalt belongs to the “target-one” zones of the EU and offers good subsidy environment.
Saxony-Anhalt has evolved into one of the top locations for business in the heart of Europe. The chemical industry and mechanical engineering and construction are the heavyweights in Saxony-Anhalt’s economy. The state especially benefits from its five chemical plants where companies such as Bayer,Total and Dow Chemical respectively are located. The industry gets its support from a many-layered research landscape, including two universities, eight universities of applied science and twelve research institutes, as well as networks and cluster initiatives. Industries of the future, such as the solar and the wind industry, boost the economical development of the Federal State. With 3.500 employees, the SOLAR VALLEY Saxony-Anhalt is one of the largest centres of solar industry in Europe. Further positive examples for continuous growth in Saxony-Anhalt are the logistics and food industry.
