The company

Project and heavy lift carrier Beluga Shipping GmbH is a specialist for tailor-made transportation solutions and world market leader in the project- and heavy lift-segment (source: Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics). The company is based in Bremen (Germany) and was established in 1995 by the President and CEO Niels Stolberg. Since December 2007 Beluga Shipping is on site in South Africa with the branch office in Johannesburg being one of twelve international locations. A modern fleet currently comprising 66 multipurpose heavy lift project carriers with a lifting capacity up to 700 tons and the highest technical as well as safety standards on board satisfies the client’s demands for professional performance on the high seas while committed experts in the Beluga department Transport Engineering master the most challenging tasks with creative stowing, reliable lashing, and worldwide supervision of loading and discharging processes. With the newly designed Beluga P1- and P2-series Beluga Shipping clearly focuses on the Super Heavy Lift Segment. These units are being delivered as from this summer on and offer some of the most capable on-board crane gears in the business with lifting powers of 800 tons and 1400 tons respectively, tonnage of up to 20,000 tons deadweight, extra large hatches, and ice class E3, thus enabling the transit of the Northeast Passage.

Transport to Africa

Power plant equipment, building materials, steel products, mine equipment or constructional parts for the renovation of the stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as general cargo are among the goods Beluga Shipping transports to Africa’s growing marketplaces. Beluga tonnage available in South African ports are particularly traded as single deckers and, in combination with general and breakbulk cargo, also carry the bigger bulk parcels ranging from coal to minerals. Prominent Beluga projects related to Africa in the recent past include the shipment of port cranes to Angola, Namibia and Nigeria, the delivery of oil- and gas-offshore modules (for instance to the Gulf of Guinea), the shipment of dump trucks to South Africa or the transport of a ferry to Cameroon.

Customer Services

The Beluga multipurpose heavy lift project carriers flexibly and independently operate from on-site infrastructure and often sail on routes off the beaten track.
